Free Emergency Contraception at Local Pharmacies
From 29th October 2025, women of child-bearing age can access the emergency contraception pill for free from most community pharmacies across England, without needing to see a GP.
This service is designed to make emergency contraception quicker and easier to access when it is needed.
What you need to know:
- Available free of charge at almost 10,000 community pharmacies across England
- No age limits - anyone who needs emergency contraception can access the service
- No appointment or referral required – you can walk in
- A trained pharmacist will provide the pill following an approved and confidential process
If you think you may need emergency contraception, it is important not to delay, as it is more effective the sooner it is taken.
